SHIRT of the WEEK #3

So this weeks shirt is a little late seeing that the week is almost over but memorial day weekend was a long one... so we're all a little behind by the way the east coast went off over that weekend and I missed out (why I have no clue) but I did get some waves behind a really big boat and I'm still sore from it I'll post some pictures later so check back.

Now back to this weeks shirt. The inspiration for this one's pretty obvious if you've ever been in Florida salt water... but here's my story anyway. We were up in Hommosassa last year for scallop season (which is right around the corner) and I guess the jellyfish get worse with the incoming tide, well this day they we're out of control, the jelly's are always out there but this day was nuts. I'm talking like 100's of 1,000 all over the place, you couldn't even get off the boat with out landing in a giant pod of em' I've never seen anything like it. Fortunitly for us though we had been scalloping all morning and got pleanty before the tides changed. So we're driving the boat around trying to find a spot not infested with jelly's but it was impossible they had taken over the central gulf. I didn't have a camera so I never took a picture but when I got home I found a drawing of a jelly Brando did one day. So we modified the drawing to look more like what it did they day out in the gulf, just a big overflowing mob of jelly's, and if you look at the shirt closely you'll notice the old U logo on all the jelly's head's. We used to put that logo on U.B.C. surfboards waaaay back in the day... we're slowly trying to bring it back.

Also if you like this shirt keep an eye out because we're gunna try this design with some rad color ways on tank tees for the summer.

WAVES

Got this email from Travis (staff surf forecaster) this moorning...
As with every year I believe this is our early summer treat, A tad bit early though. I expect her to meander then gradually track w x nw with no foreseable strengthening and most of the tight gradient on the northern and eastern sides. Cuba and texas should fire. Unfortunately not resulting in all that good of surf, should be small tommorrow as it was today but with more west. Not to confident in the forecast, as some other scenarios are also possible and it is depressing sitting in Tulsa looking at it. Not worth calling in but worth checking. Check out these websites.
http://moe.met.fsu.edu/~rhart/web.php. This is run by one of my old profs. don't trust the MM5 but the ensemble, specifically the sref is very useful.

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/mlb/ldis/4km/ADAS_wind.htm The adas is very useful as it gives you real time wind obs. Any questions drop me a line.. Keep it boogieing J

SHIRT of the WEEK

This a brand new shirt not even available yet, but I like it alot so I'm posting it. I'm not going to get into the details of the design because if it has to be explained to you then your most likely better off not wearing it.
Here's the basics:
Brando drew it, the colors red, gold, & green represent rasta, & so does the Lion.

We're huge Reggae enthusiasts around here and all agreed we need at least one Lion of Judah shirt in the mix. So here ya go

THE DREAD LION...

Memphis

So I guess we got a new addition to the crew. This little guy followed Claire home the other day. It was obvius he'd been straw for awhile now so we feed him and took in him for a few days nobody's claimed him so I guess he's here to stay. He's a cool little dog though so I don't mind.

Say hi to Memphis...

SHIRT of the WEEK

So this is the first installment of the shirt of the week post. If you didn't know there is a whole creative process for each shirt we create, it's not complicated or anything but each design does have some sort of inspiration and roots to our culture. We've done this a couple times before(big youth, rad kiss) but now it's going to be weekly.

Anyway just take a look at this weeks shirt and it will make sense... then check back next week for a new shirt.

The OG BUMPER STICKER...
This shirt has been very popular with FLA residents and no lie has actually offended tourists, now that is fun to do but offending people wasn't our intention... here's a quick story, just the other day a radom lady (most likely wasn't local) got on my case for having this shirt on, she was going off on me saying that's not funny at all tourism is Florida's main income and we need to be nice and respectable to tourist's.

Anyway that lady needs to relax and so does everybody else that is offended by this shirt. As I was saying this was never our intention. If you grew up in the 80's or early 90's on any popular coastal community in FLA then there's a good chance you saw this bumper sticker on some beat up ol' chevy work truck most likely belonging to some crusty redneck who cleans pools or something. Everytime I saw one of these stickers I always had a good laugh.

So one day me & Brando we're sitting in beach traffic and I was gettin frustrated, sitting in bumper to bumper traffic and noticing that all the other cars had out of state tags. Then I start talking about the old welcome to Florida bumper stickers and how I'd like to find one. Then Brando tells me he used to have one on his Van when he was 16 (thats right brando was the dude with the van in high school) we had a laugh and then decided we need to bring it back, so that's what we did took the phrase made it look cool and printed it on an orange shirt. Orange of course for Florida. So that's the purpose of the shirt just a good laugh.... and to pay tribute to brando's van of course.
